Psychotherapy and Consultation

How I Work
I think of psychotherapy as a collaborative process and my style is interactive and engaged. I value people’s strengths and maintain an open, empathic and non-judgmental position. Every individual and couple comes to therapy with unique needs, desires and history; so there is no one “right” way to work with everyone. Together the client and I determine what is most likely to be helpful.
In general, I work from a psychodynamic point of view that integrates a number of contemporary perspectives, particularly Relational Theory. This means that I take into consideration the effect of past history on present day problems and behaviors, but I also believe that the therapy relationship can be enormously helpful in the healing process. I think long-lasting change can come about by understanding underlying dynamic causes of troubling behaviors or moods. Some of these dynamics will become evident as we work together and we can use this “here and now” experience to deepen our understanding of your particular issues and strengths.
